Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what data Wamikan collects, how we use it, and how we protect it. Given the nature of our service — storing and sharing precise physical locations — we have written this policy to be specific and transparent rather than generic.

What Data We Collect
Data you provide directly
- GPS coordinates of locations you choose to save
- Landmark photos you upload
- Voice notes you record
- Location names and written directions you enter
- Email address (if you create an account or use email access control)
- Payment information (processed by Paystack — we do not store card details)
Data we collect automatically
- Link view counts (how many times your shared link has been opened)
- IP address and browser information for rate limiting and abuse prevention
- Timestamps of account activity
How We Use Your Data
We use your data solely to operate and improve Wamikan:
- To generate and serve your location link to anyone you share it with
- To enforce link expiry, single-use settings, and access control you configure
- To process subscription payments via Paystack
- To prevent abuse and enforce our Terms of Service
- To send transactional emails (account-related notifications only — no marketing without consent)
We do not sell your data. We do not use your location data for advertising. We do not track your location continuously — GPS coordinates are only captured at the moment you explicitly tap "save."
Where Your Data Is Stored
- Location data, link metadata, and account information are stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Neon (neon.tech), with servers in the United States.
- Photos and voice notes are stored in Cloudflare R2 object storage, distributed globally via Cloudflare's network.
- Payment data is processed and stored by Paystack in accordance with their own privacy policy. We do not store card numbers or bank details on our servers.
Data Retention and Deletion
- Free tier links expire automatically after 30 days. When a link expires, associated media (photos and voice notes) are deleted from Cloudflare R2 within 24 hours. The GPS pin and location name may be retained briefly before full deletion.
- Pro and Business links are retained for as long as your subscription is active. When you cancel or delete a location, associated media is deleted from R2 within 24 hours.
- Account data is deleted within 30 days of account deletion request.
- You can delete any saved location at any time from your dashboard, which immediately removes it from public access.
Who We Share Your Data With
We share data only with the following service providers, strictly to operate Wamikan:
- Neon — database hosting
- Cloudflare — media storage and content delivery (R2 and Pages/Workers)
- Paystack — payment processing
We do not share your data with any other third parties, advertisers, or data brokers.
Link Sharing and Public Access
When you create a Wamikan link, the location data (GPS pin, photo, voice note, and written directions) is accessible to anyone who has the link. You are responsible for who you share your link with. Features such as password protection, email access control, and one-time view links are available on paid plans to give you greater control over who can access your location.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Withdraw consent for data processing where applicable

Children's Privacy
Wamikan is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
Security
We implement reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including encrypted storage, HTTPS on all connections, rate limiting on our API, and access controls on our infrastructure. However, no system is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or a notice on the platform. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update.
